Pinned version
A pinned version is a model id that stays on one snapshot until you change it or that id is retired. Put the dated id, or the Azure deployment version you selected, in production after you test it.

OpenAI and Anthropic
OpenAI says the way to keep prompting and output consistent is to use a pinned model version and to run evals. The dated snapshot id is that pin. A short alias can move.
Anthropic says each Claude model ID is a pinned version for the life of that ID. Convenience aliases on earlier models are outside that guarantee. A 4.6-generation id is the snapshot.

Gemini, Azure, and Bedrock
A Gemini stable name points at one stable model and usually does not change. A latest name is not a pin. It is hot-swapped.
On Azure, a deployment with a specific version stays on that version until you change it or until retirement. NoAutoUpgrade does not move the deployment. At retirement that deployment stops working. OnceNewDefaultVersionAvailable and OnceCurrentVersionExpired move it.
Bedrock's lifecycle pages do not describe a floating alias. The model id you send is the id that is retired on the EOL date for the Regions on that row.
