End of life
End of life (EOL) is Amazon Bedrock's name for the date a model is removed and requests to it fail. OpenAI calls that moment shut down or sunset, and Anthropic, Gemini, Vertex, and Azure call it retirement or shutdown.

Amazon Bedrock
On the current lifecycle page, after the EOL date the model is removed from all AWS Regions and requests fail, unless you have a private arrangement with the provider. Migration does not happen automatically. You change the model id before EOL.
On the legacy page, which covers models launched before September 7, 2026, the model is no longer available on or soon after the EOL date, and requests fail, with the same private-arrangement exception. The Regions column lists only the Regions covered by that EOL date. The model can stay Active in other Regions.
Bedrock dates can differ from the dates the model provider publishes. For a Bedrock call, only the Bedrock date applies.

OpenAI: at shut down the model is no longer accessible. Anthropic: requests to retired models fail. Gemini: the endpoint is no longer available. Azure: a retired model is removed and inference requests return 410 Gone, unless the deployment was upgraded before that date.
